Can't Find The Right Home? Build It!

With our auction at 32 Dutton Street, Dutton Park coming up in a few weeks it has reminded me just how much interest there is in building in the inner city. The scarcity of land makes it difficult and you are often restricted by small lots (i.e. 400m2 or less!)

If you want to build a more substantial home the small lots can make it difficult. That is what makes 32 Dutton Street even more appealing. A fully 24 perches and wide 15.1 metre frontage opens up all sorts of design possibilities. And of course it allows for yard space and a pool.

I am under strict instructions to get this block of land sold so if you have any interest make sure you talk to me before 11 June or it will be too late.

If you want to get started you need to talk to a builder. DJ Builders are specialists in inner city homes and can help you design . Give them a call on 3801 2866 or visit www.djbuilders.com.au. (P.S They know all about the 32 Dutton Street site too!)

Market Update :: Motivated Sellers + Prices Reduced = Buying Opportunities

Brisbane homes given go-ahead to be raised above floodwaters

About 160 Brisbane families have asked if they can raise their homes in the wake of January's devastating floods.

The applications come as the Brisbane City Council will be allowed to raise their homes 9.5 metres above the ground.

The guidelines set a new flood level for the city and give residents the right to raise the level of their buildings one metre higher than the previous maximum height in inundated areas.

Neighbourhood planning chair Amanda Cooper said the interim guidelines would ensure flood victims were able to get started with the reconstruction process while the State Government carried on its flood inquiry, which is expected to take a year or more to deliver its final outcomes.

“We cannot stand by in good conscience and leave the flood level as it is after seeing how high the flood waters got in January,” Cr Cooper said.

“This is as much about better protecting homes against future flooding as it is about giving flood victims the certainty they need to start rebuilding again.”

Rare Earth

OK so we see every second ad on realestate.com.au claims to have be "a once in a lifetime property" or "rare opportunity" or "often sought rarely found". I'm loathe to describe a property this way but quite simply I haven't had 600+m2 of vacant land in the inner city available in the last 2 years and never in a location this good!

32 Dutton Street, Dutton Park truly is rare earth. An elevated, vacant Res 'A' block of land, probably thought unavailable in this sought after location.

Being offered for sale by public auction, the vendors are moving on and anxious to sell. Do not miss this one!

Smoke alarm 'fraud': Our homes at risk

Millions of homes in Australia are at risk because their smoke detectors are slow to detect a fire, often going off when it's too late, fire safety experts have warned.

They even labelled the most popular type of smoke alarm "fraudulent".

The head of the World Fire Safety Foundation is now meeting Australian fire brigades and government officials in a desperate effort to get the offending devices, ionisation smoke alarms, replaced with more effective devices.

The installation of smoke alarms in new residential properties became compulsory in Queensland in 1997. Later, the law was amended to include the instalaltion of alarms in all residential properties.

WFSF chairman Adrian Butler said millions of properties with those detectors - which account for more than 95 per cent of those in residences - are at risk. "No one wants to admit publicly these things are defective," he said. "We believe it's fraudulent to call them a smoke alarm."
